The Border Brewery, Tweedmouth was re-established in 1992 on the site of the original Border Brewery which dates back to 1777. In 1994, husband and wife team, Andy and Shona Burrows, bought the brewery. Andy's brewing knowledge and experience, combined with Shona's business acumen resulted in their early beers, such as 'Rampart', being a huge success. Soon the couple were looking for larger premises to increase production. As a result, the Border Brewery merged with the Four Rivers Brewery in 2000 and 'moved lock, stock and casks' to the Four Rivers 20-barrel brew-plant premises at Hawick Crescent, Newcastle upon Tyne - the site of the original Hadrian Brewery. Hence the name change to the Hadrian & Border Brewery. The Hadrian & Border 8-strong brewing team have a reputation across North East England and Southern Scotland for draft and bottled beers with distinctive flavours and predictable quality. Leading brands include Tyneside Blonde and the trio of bitters: Farne Island; Centurion; and Newcastle Pioneer.

The 'appliance of science' Director, Andy Burrows, got his BSc in Brewing from Heriot-Watt University in 1985. He worked from 1985 to 1989 as a trainee brewer at the Belhaven Brewing Company.
Shona means business! Director, Shona Burrows, has been a business woman from the age of 19 when she bought her first hair dressing salon, swiftly followed by a second. She then moved into a successful hotel partnership in Scotland before focusing on the brewing industry in the mid 90's.
