Biker has a lot of bottle(s)
Hadrian and Border Brewery are thrilled to have sponsored a wheelchair user from Corbridge on the Euro-leg of the www.transglobemoto.com motorcycle fund-raising adventure in May 2009.
More than 25 years after he was left paralysed in a motorcycle crash, Martin Conquest motorcycles offered 47 year old David Burdus the use of a Conquest 1200R wheelchair accessible trike to make the 2000 mile round trip to Berlin in aid of disability charity Capability Scotland. However, he desperately needed funds for equipment, petrol, insurance, ferry, etc. and that is where Hadrian and Border Brewery stepped in with 200 bottles of special edition Bitter.
Said MD, Shona Burrows, “David’s thirst for adventure is a perfect match for our Newcastle Pioneer Bitter. We were delighted to help him out with a 'special label' bottle run to help fund his ride and the profile of transglobemoto."
“I have never lost my passion for motorbikes or real ale”, said David, “‘Pioneer’ is a great pint – smooth and hoppy with a sharp citrus kick and the name summed me up perfectly, the Newcastle Pioneer”. So much so, I had put on the front of my helmet!” "I must mention that two cases of Hadrian and Border 'Newcastle Pioneer Bitter' accompanied us all the way to Germany and has now been drunk by the likes of Chief of Police in Wolfsburg and civil servants in the Ministry of Finance in Berlin."
David was part of a three man team that began their bike journey in Edinburgh on 9th May, passed through Newcastle on their way to Hull, Zebrugge, Metz, Bonn, Wolfsburg and finally Berlin (see Tom McInally, David Burdus and Gordon Thyne at the Brandenburg Gate, below), from where Mr Burdus and a back up vehicle made their return journey home.

The two main transglobemoto team members are continuing on towards Japan and the USA, in a tour which is expected to take six months. To date £24,350 has been raised for Capability Scotland. To sponsor the team, log on to www.justgiving.com/transglobemoto.
